We had another great turn out for Math Mania! This time we read Gracias the Thanksgiving Turkey, and disguised our turkeys based on math directions. Can you see the math in our turkeys?
Tonight we had our very first Math Mania for students in grades K-2! We had a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who came out!
Here are some pictures of what we did! We worked on estimation and number sense. We read the book How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin by Margaret McNamara and G. Brian Karas. We discussed estimation. Students estimated about how many seeds they thought were in their grade level's pumpkin. They worked together to count the number of seeds in their pumpkins. Kindergarteners and 1st graders used ten frames to count their total number of seeds, and second grade made bundles of 100 to count theirs. All of our pumpkins had more than 35o seeds!! The students with the closest estimation got to take a pumpkin home!
We hope to see you all out for our next event: Thursday, November 21st from 5:00-6:00pm!
Math Mania is for students and families in grades K-2 grade. Please come out, with your students, the third Thursday of every month for engaging, fun, hands-on math activities! Please check out the flyer! It will be held in the Ferguson cafeteria from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. This month we will be reading a math book and working with pumpkins! We hope to see you there!
