For the past two weeks, we have been comparing and contrasting different tall characters.  We have learned about Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, and Annie Oakley.  The students selected their favorite tall tale character and made a PowerPoint presentation sharing the information they learned about their favorite tall tale hero.  Please take a moment to have your child share his or her presentation with you.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

We have been learning all about fractions!  The students are doing very well.  They have added lots of information to their schema.  Please look at the pictures and check out our kid blog on fractions too!  Make sure you ask them about a whole, halves, and fourths!

During writer's workshop, we have been working on writing stories about one idea and adding lots of descriptive details to describe this experience or memory.  This way the reader is able to visualize our stories.  We are also working on stretching out our sounds, using punctuation, and using capital letters when we write.  The thinking goggles and thinking caps give us lots of brain power as we write!

Guided math groups are going very well!  During math, we work in small groups.  The four rotations include the teacher station, math journal station, math tub station, and seat work station.  Here are some pictures of the students hard at work during math groups.

In science we are talking about the four seasons and weather.  We went to the computers to do a Kidspiration activity.  The students needed to sort the pictures under the appropriate seasons.  They had a lot of fun and worked hard!
